I loved the thought of this book when I heard about it. The idea that a young African boy learns about a place like Greenland and then runs off to live there. It’s so ridiculous and yet so fantastical.

This one got off to a slow start for me. I just couldn't get past the first 20 pages. Such slow progress that I stopped reading it for 6 months, in fact! Once I picked it back up, though, I really got into it. Kpomassie has a gift for narrative that makes this one of the best travel memoirs I've ever read. I didn't expect the writing to be so good, probably because the premise seems so ripe for gimmicks that I feared the publisher may have allowed mediocre writing knowing the premise alone would ...more
