Some of the most readable historic non-fiction that I have read. More of a documentary than a novel, Jung Chang tells the story of three women in 20th Century China: her grandmother's, her mother's and her own.
A wonderful social history of China under Mao, it is full of terrible cruelty, but at the same time enormous courage, resilience and hope.
