The book is short, the writing simple and spare--but it's not slight. It's hard for me to think of another book of this kind of length--the text is only 115 pages--that has the raw power of this one. In Holocaust literature this is often ranked with The Diary of Anne Frank. Anne Frank and Elie Wiesel were around the same age when the events of their books took place.
