Wonderful historical fiction based on notes from old diaries belonging to the protagonist. Based in fact, liberties are taken with some details, hence the historical fiction tag. Fascinating descriptions of medical care, particularly that of women. Role of women and hierarchy within the family made me glad to be living in today's times!
