This was such a heartbreaking read! It was great, don’t get me wrong, but I was absolutely devastated by the ending. Of course, I picked up the book as a book club book without knowing much about it and therefore had no idea it was the origin story for the queen of hearts. So I really fell in love with Jest and Cath being together and was seriously sad when I realized that it didn’t matter if Cath stopped being ridiculous, they couldn’t end up together anyway.

3 stars ｡･:*˚:✧｡ I picked this book out of my TBR jar and I have had this book for 5 plus years. I did enjoy this book to an extent it was just way longer than it really had to be. It read like a historical romance due to the time period which was nice and kind of unexpected. I was not fully connected to the characters by the end of the book, but it was interesting seeing Cath turn from an innocent girl to a queen seeking revenge. It's actually a 3.5, so I marked it 4.

What annoys me the most is that Cath is really spineless sometimes. maybe if she had listened to her heart (view spoiler) more, much could have been avoided.
