This book was a hell of a lot better than I thought it was going to be. Levi is by far my absolute favorite character, but Cath is in a close second. Cath and Levi are adorable together.

Re-read it and probably lived the best 6-7 hours of my life. :)
I think I need Rainbow Rowell shots every now and then just to lift me up. I am so charged up to read and acknowledge more books now.

One of The Immortal Bibliophiles picks for the months of August and September

Fangirl is not the first book I’ve read by Rainbow Rowell, it’s actually the third one. Before this one, I’ve read Eleanor & Park and Almost Midnight and I gave them both three stars, same rating that I’ll be giving this book too. Boy am I proud of my younger self. Usually when I skim through my old ratings the most common thought ringing through my head is what were you thinking??? But I loved Fangirl then, and I definitely still love it now. Maybe even more.

I surprisingly fell in love with this book! I had put off reading this for so long but finally decided to for a road trip... and I couldn't put it down! Over 400 pages of humor and awesomeness. I didnt want to finish the book because I didnt want to let go of the characters, but in the end, I had to finish it because it was too good to put down and I was dying to know what happened. Fell in love with this book and I just want to read it on repeat. Looking forward to Carry On next!

I’m so glad I re-read this book after about three years, I forgot how much I related to Cath and how much I loved all the characters in this book. This makes me want to move to America so I can go to college and have a funny cute bf and a sarcastic amazing roommate. Ahh love this so much. Levi is the biggest dork on the planet I have forgotten how much I love him😩

This is the first Rainbow Rowell book I have ever read, and the first review I have ever written. So I apologize in advance if this review is not as clear or structured as the others.

For those who have loved the book, I respect you, but I’am sorry, this book disappointed me.

I’m about to explain the reasons why, but for those who haven’t read the book yet. I urge you not to read on because spoilers are about to take place.

For those who have loved the book, I respect you, but I’am sorry, this book disappointed me.

I’m about to explain the reasons why, but for those who haven’t read the book yet. I urge you not to read on because spoilers are about to take place.

First of all, I tried and tried and tried to love the book. I tried to understand Cath and her issues. But everytime I get to the point of understanding her, something just happens that just throws me off. For example, I understood that she was distant to people because she has trust issues, or issues that arised when their mother left them. But towards the middle part of the book, that wasn’t the big issue anymore. The issue now is how Cath handles her relationship with the people around her.

Reagan (thank God for the-honest-no-bullshit Reagan) and Levi was there now, they were there for her and were willing to understand her. And yet she chose to be caved in her room. She chose to be locked up in her own world than to try and see what the real world has to offer. She also chose writing with Nick until the middle of the night than to get to know Levi and Reagan better. I mean Nick... a classmate who just randomly asks her to write with him until midnight and does not even have the decency to bring her to back to her dorm. Like seriously? Why?

Then there's Caths relationship with Levi. Which is just so idk… sad? Of course I saw her grow, I saw her try. But I feel like she’s not really trying enough? I feel like its Levi who’s putting effort into it (well yes, that should really happen, with chivalry and all), but shoudn’t they both put in an effort to make it work. Its like she barely understands Levi and all Levi does is understand her, take care of her, and be there for her. Forgive me if I’m wrong, but I didn’t see any part wherein she tried to be interested with what Levi does. All I really remember of her is thinking of ways why it won’t work between them or how Levi looks and smells like.

And there's also Cath and Wrens twin/sibling/bff relationship meltdown. I mean okay... I understand Wren might want to explore college on her own, etc, etc. But there really wasn’t enough explanation on what really happened to Wren. The fire between them was building up all throughout the book, then when the time came for the big explosion, the big explanation on why they grew apart, and what really happened to Wren, nothing came up. Instead of having a explosion, we got a pebble drop. Or maybe something worse/shallower than that. Its sad that there was no way to understand Wren. No way to understand their mother too. I mean even if it was merely mentioned, I think it was Wren who even grew and understood their mother, or atleast tried to. Cath was just too stubborn, mad, and I think even scared to try to open her heart and understand their mother.

Sadly, these undeveloped relationships went on until the end of the book, I did not see any significant growth on Cath. I saw her as the same girl who was introduced in the beginning; cold, unapproachable, and still trapped in her Simon and Baz world (my personal opinion), only with the addition of having Reagan and Levi into her life now.

PS. I still don’t understand what those Simon and Baz snippets are for. I mean I loved the one where she read the story she created to Levi, but the ones before every chapter snippet, I just don’t get it.

if you have recently read three or more fantasy series in a row then you are direly in need of this book. fangirl is a slow read, or perhaps, because i read it during my finals, for me it was a slow read. but the kind that suck you in. apparently, its sort of laid back, not very all-consuming but once you are through this you actually realize that you have been totally consumed. Cather is sweat but levi is an outright sweetheart. its about knowing your world and yourself in a more honest way and ...more
