I finished this in one hot afternoon. How can a book about a best friend's suicide be so hopeful? I don't know what I like the most - that there is art (yes, actual art) in the book; that the healing power of creation is so strong; that the mother of the protagonist is an elementary school principal; that the father grows artichokes and rhubarb in his vegetable garden and buys wood for her to work with, to help her recover, simply based on the fact that she once built a step-ladder when she was ...more
