Odd Thomas can see the dead, though they don't talk, and occasionally he uses this to help the police solve murders. Odd is a short order cook and completely in love with Stormy. A customer comes into the restaurant where Odd works and is surrounded by bodachs, evil beings who seem to be attracted to future tragedies. I read this book for a book club and admittedly let loose more than a few eye rolls at the prospect of reading a popular thriller that didn't much appeal to me. I have to admit though that I did actually enjoy this book a lot. It's an interesting story with a few surprises and I actually think it was also perfect for a summer beach read. ...more

The characters and prose were likable enough, but I just couldn't get interested in the story. It's more than 80% into the book before anything happens. The rest is just Odd driving around town trying to figure out where and when the thing that happens will happen. I won't be reading any of the others in the series any time soon. Which isn't to say I didn't like it. I did. When I read it, I enjoyed it. But I wasn't interested enough to sit down and read big chunks. ...more

The first Koontz book that I read and my favorite thus far. Great character. This first book is my favorite of the series, but I really enjoyed all three.
