What Members Thought

Here I am at Pendergast 4 and this one is off on another tangent. He is an intriguing character, seemingly highly intelligent, incredibly strong, and always one step ahead of everyone else. This one was as fast paced as the others, but required a bit more suspension of disbelief. I'll never look at a cornfield the same again, though.

Agent Pendergast decides to take a vacation in Medicine Creek, Kansas where there just happens to have been a grisly murder. Pendergast works with the local sheriff because he's convinced this is a serial killer who is local. Pendergast hires a local misfit high schooler, Corrie Swanson, to be his assistant. The authors do a good job of making the corn fields menacing but I missed the normal New York settings of this series.

Preston's books are kind of like eating snacks. Very tasty but not much to think about after you are finished. This one is a little different when you finally get to meet the killer and find out about his life. You won't love him, but can appreciate his plight.

The Pendergast series is so cheesy and so wildly implausible, but I love it anyway - they're my go-to vacation reads for something quick and light that captures my attention without taxing it.

Riveting and intense! I didn't realize I stumbled into the midst of a series. I'll have to go back and check out the first 3 Pendergast books!
