Wow. Just wow. How often does a girl get to tell her story and have people actually listen!
Malala is both an exceptional young woman and yet could be anyone's daughter. She was a child while the events of this book were going on. It sickens me (and should sicken all of us) that any child, anywhere, should have to endanger her life for speaking her mind and wanting an education.
I respect her and wanted to hug her at the same time.

Malala is a girl living with her family in the Swat Valley in Pakistan. Once the Taliban takes control of the region they eventually start ordering females to not attend school. Supported by her family Malala speaks out regarding the right of girls to an education. Eventually the military removes most of the taliban presence from Malala's valley and she's allowed to return to school. I wish I'd been able to read this when I was 15. It would have been the coolest thing ever, reading about a young girl standing up for her beliefs and making a difference.

Unfortunately, with my adult eyes, I found the prose extremely disjointed and awkward, a semi-failed attempt to combine a history lesson with personal accounts of daily life. This is a wonderful book, that not only talked about Malala and her fight for education, particularly for Girls, but a look at the history of Pakistan.
