There are three aspects to this debut novel that are probably going to make or break the average reader's reaction to it. Loved the narration from the 11 year old immigrant: so heartbreaking to know the things he is describing in his world for what they really are. Good look at urban life and how violence can be cyclical. I liked the input from the pigeon but sometimes a bit off from the pattern and rhythm of the book and narration.

Absolutely brilliant! You got to read this novel! Beyond the appearance of slang and teenager narrator (very well created voice of a 12 year kid) it lies a lot of major topics, starting from the confrontation between good and evil and ending up in mundane things like immigration and adapting to a life in a new country. For sure this will become with years a classic novel!
