Beautiful novela. Funny and poignant. The language is sparse but exact. The structure of this is a story within a story and then later we find there are more stories unfolding, and yet Zambra does it in a seamless and natural way that doesn't feel like it's trying to be a structural innovation. I especially loved the bedtime story he tells his step-daughter. This is a gem, and I'm going to read more from him. It's a translated book but feels like it could've been written in English.
