I found this a little predictable and the style less than inspiring, but it was fairly enjoyable all the same. It seems to have attracted quite a fan base and spawned a number of sequels. Something tells me that it's probably more appealing to younger readers than a middle-aged person like myself. Too bad I didn't read it as a teen. Also, I'm not a big reader of "series" books, so perhaps that's part of why I found this only moderately enjoyable. ...more

I actually felt this book was a little repetitive. And since it took place in a completely different version of Earth, I didn't understand or care about the political structure so all of the stuff with Demosthenes and Locke were lost on me. ...more
