Iceland does World War II through the eyes of an 80 year old computer hacking Grandma with a hand grenade. There must be something that happens in Iceland with the long winters and summers that impacts the mind. She was a lovable old curmudgeon. The 1,000 degrees is the temperature of the crematorium, which is where both the book and life end up.

And without any spoilers, the hand grenade does go off to rather great effect in my humble opinion.

Reading this novel, you realize how important was World War II for 20th century.

This fixed to be a picaresque albeit at times grim romp through the decades of the 20th C, told by an all-too-kooky / quirky very old woman who seemed toe an artificial construct. I felt no warmth. Sorry,
konan, you fell from my hands.
