There are a lot of GR reviewers, who I really respect, rating this one higher. I came to C-O-G after a McCarthy reading blitz, and felt this was definitely one of his lesser novels. It's like he sat down and said "I'm going to write crazy, outrageous shit and see what happens." And with McCarthy that will take you into some strange places. Cormac McCarthy makes a serial killer Biblical. McCarthy's prose is as spiritual and beautiful as it is harsh and unforgiving. This is how the Old Testament would read if ancient Hebrews wrote elegant English. McCarthy excels at dark metaphor and plumbing the shadows of the human psyche were all of children of God dwell in this world.
