I read such great things about this book, I expected to love it, and to love the hero, and I just ... didn't. The author seems to be really distracted by the incredibly Unconventional Hero (he appears to have some form of autism) and Heroine (she's a widow who likes sex - ooooh!) she has created, and therefore I was distracted too. That the lead is an autistic savant was very interesting because the indications are there - inability to lie, difficulty in understanding non-literal statements, challenge in sustained eye contact but was not diagnosed and unfortunately subjected to barbaric treatments. I also liked that the help also had distinctive personalities.

A captivating story despite being predictable, this book features Ian Mackenzie, who is a suspect in two murders, abused son of a despised (and fortunately, dead) duke, and intriguing love interest of Beth Ackerley, former paid companion and recent heiress to her boss's fortune. The story becomes much more complex when a Scotland Yard detective is determined to pin the murders on at least one, if not two, of the Mackenzie brothers.
