UPDATE:
reading this for Read Christie 2021.

3,5 stars! This is actually better than I remember.. The story and setting are fitting with winter/Christmas time.. And the added "supernatural" vibes is also spot on. True, there is no lovable detectives here... but it's still enjoyable.

Not as engaging as Poirot's stories, but still has the mysterious aura - albeit a bit slow and bland.

Stand alone Christie mystery with a supernatural twist. During a 'table-turning' (a type of séance) at a wintry night social gathering, they receive a message: "Captain Trevelyan . . . dead . . . murder." Major Burnaby, Captain Trevelyan's best friend, immediately heads out on foot due to the icy road conditions making driving not possible. He finds him dead.

If I write anything more, it may spoil the read.

Emily makes a perfect protagonist for this village mystery, particularly in the way that she deftly maneuvers the people around her to get the information she needs to solve the puzzle. Clever and cool all around.
