Too many pages on her personal life. Seemed like filler as the mystery could not occupy enough pages. And not buying hypnotism. The murder itself, however, seemed inventive.

The writing is no-nonsense; the period details just enough to conjure up the 1920s without overegging the historical pudding; the found family a treat. The mystery is so-so but it all pootles along nicely, and the Australian setting is a bonus.
