I'm actually going to review three short story collections at once, since I read them all in quick succession, Bad Behavior by Mary Gaitskill, Men Without Women: Stories by Haruki Murakami, and Joshua Ferris's The Dinner Party and Other Stories.

"Secretary" is my favorite story. The end is nothing like what I recall of the film. It's not specified how old Debby is, but I relate to her living at home, the role of her parents in her job search, finding this secretary position, feeling content for a brief while, having a boring routine at home, feeling afraid and anxious in the office because of a supervisor's bad tension, etc. I enjoyed how often clerical work was a theme in this book.
