This book is about the author as lone survivor when she loses her parents, husband and two children in a tsunami. It's amazing that she herself survived. There's little about the wave itself. The book is mostly a description of her memories of the ones that she lost, and in particular, her two boys, who sounded like would have grown up to be amazing people. Honestly, if I could give this 5.5 stars, I would. It is grief in its rawest form, so it's a difficult read, but I felt every bit so deeply. It's not a book I would recommend carte blanche. I think that if I were a mother, it would be prohibitively difficult to get through. As it was, the parts about her husband and her parents evoked incredibly strong emotions in me, most likely because we have common experiences with these types of relationships. I finished this book in a day but the story will stay with me for a long time. It's not an easy book to read; it is page after page of living through such profound loss.
