At first, I wasn't a fan of the narrator's voice, but then I realized that she captured the gossipy, chick lit nature of this book. I also liked being awakened by her singing Silent Night.

The author has a beautiful style of writing. There were times when it got slow but I'm glad I finished it. May there always be a little Bernadette in all of us.

I read this book the week after I returned from an Antarctica cruise, because I saw it in a bookshop in Port Lockroy with a sign saying "THIS BOOK MENTIONS PORT LOCKROY". It tickled me immensely everytime I knew a reference. I kept nudging my husband every 2 hours showing how Maria Semple IS IN MY HEAD. If this is satire, I love it.
