Everyone should read this book.

Written under the pseudonym, "Linda Brent", the book relates Harriet Jacobs first-hand story of the abuses of slavery. Harriet Jacobs was born a slave in 1813 in North Carolina. The book was published in 1861 based on letters Harriet had sent to friends and relatives retelling her personal story of the commodification of people in the slave system and the particular indignities suffered by woman. Though not overly dramatized, this is a moving and informative story
