Haven't seen the movie, but it was easy for me to imagine James Earl a Jones in the main role of Troy Maxson. It is a short play, but not a quick read with the many issues raised. It revealed a descriptive picture of the challenges of that time and for this family and man in particular. Recommend.

This is the sixth book in the century cycle, but the fifth play I've read in the series and it is the best by far.

Since I had recently read Of Mice and Men which is another dark bit of realism, my first thought was "Wilson does well what Steinbeck tried to do." Wilson inserts you into a world with flawed characters in difficult circumstances. There is no villain in the story just imperfect heroes in a harsh world. A worthy read.
