Something reminded me to add this little gem that I read two years ago. I really enjoyed the characters from India who leave their home and settle in a small village in the French Alps.
They open an India restaurant right across from a stuffy, gourmet French restaurant and the drama and comedy ensue.

Enjoyable, but one of the few books that I think the movie might have been better than the original book. Plus, you can't beat the visual lushness of the movie or the Hollywood perfect ending they crowned it with. But the book did have the advantage of mouth-watering food descriptions and fleshed-out characters.

Some mildly passable food porn. Otherwise plotless and tone-deaf: an Indian boy grows up to fame in France's food world. Individualistic, anti-union pablum.

I'm so glad I finished reading this book, not because I enjoyed it, but because I'm glad it's over. I enjoyed probably about the first third of the book but then it was downhill. I don't even think I want to see the movie now.
