This sweet, heartwarming, and heart-wrenching realistic book made me laugh and cry. Every tween (and their parents) should read it.

It is the story of a boy born with a genetic syndrome that causes severe facial abnormalities and medical comorbidities. He was too ill to attend school until he decides to start middle school.

WOW! Can I say it again? WOW!!!
Every parent and child should read this book. It is moving, funny, captivating, and inspiring. Maybe because I have known children, had friends, etc, that are as inspiring as August despite their struggles. This is a great book to read as a family and then discuss in depth. I borrowed this book from the Library but will be going out to purchase our own family copy to read and re-read.

Read this for the second time to child #2. It was every bit as amazing as when I read it the first time 4 years ago. My son commented that he wished there were more books like this. This one is a classic must-read for middle grade kids.

A standing ovation for the book. I hope others come away as optimistically as I have from this book. Auggie's family is really wonderful, not perfect, just doing their best with the cards they have been dealt...finding courage when needed, pushing their kids and allowing them to be authentic. I liked the transitions within the book of the various narrators and felt that added to the insights provided. I would reread this again in the future with my kids and I will probably once again have tears ...more

Auggie Pullman was born with facial defects. He is now entering school for the first time in fifth grade. This book is aimed at elementary school kids and if I was that age I might like the book better. I think the bullying aspects were well done especially at the beginning of the book. The switching of character viewpoints was good though I wish Julian, the main "bad guy" character, had some chapters from his point of view. The ending just got way too cheesy and over the top for me. ...more

This is a sweet story about a boy named August who was born with a facial deformity. He decides to go to school, entering 5th grade. School is a scary place and people can be very mean and cruel. August has a interesting year and in the process changes everyone around him. A great read for kids from 8 to 99. Enjoy.
