What Members Thought

An epic that is a nice read. I love stories that span the generations of a family. This book chronicles the mother's side.

An impressively reconstructed narrative of the author's family story, beginning with an enslaved ancestor in rural Louisiana, moving through the generations to the mid 20th century. I found this more interesting as a project than compelling as a novel, but it was absolutely worth the read.

I really liked this book, it was just a really good story as well as good writing. The story of generations of strong black women living in Louisiana. It also goes through the social repercussions of the set in of Jim Crow, and very heart breaking.
