I just finished this book, and as many of you have stated, it's a very long read, but I believe well worth the effort. What would lead one man to kill another? This book examines that question, as the reader learns why G- ends up killing Daunt, his former childhood friend and later rival to his family fortune. Cox has clearly done his homework on London's people, places, and linguistic stylings during the 1850s, but the plot's twists and turns are so painfully obvious that I almost wish I'd brought a magazine. When your allegedly very clever protagonist takes 200 pages to figure something out while it takes your reader all of 2, something's amiss.
