Cinder the cyborg has low self-esteem, though she's a very talented mechanic. Her mechanical skills catch the eye of the crown prince, Kai, whose long time companion android needs a repair job. That's such a blessing for Cinder, to meet the handsome prince, but all is not well in New Beijing where this story takes place. There's a deadly plague going around, and it tragically touches Cinder's life that very day.

This is light read in a great setting. I love fairy tale retellings and this one is really special. It is the future! Cyborgs! Androids! What a extraordinary idea! This is a very good book that I would not have picked up but for my niece telling me that I 'just had' to read it! I don't usually care for futuristic stories or retellings, but this is a very unique and intriguing take on the old Cinderella story. In fact, the story is refreshingly different and although there are elements of the original, they have been reworked into a fascinating tale. Kudos to the author for something new and different.

This book was a pleasant surprise. It is really not the kind of book I would usually choose, but it was well written and I really liked the twist on Cinderella plot, the setting was intriguing and the characters well developed. Having said that, I would have given it an extra star if not for the abrupt end. It left a bit too much unresolved for me.
