Why did I wait so long to read this YA novel? Maybe I was overwhelmed by all the YA dystopian literature that has bombarded the bookscene after the success of The Hunger Games? Maybe I was afraid it would be just one more YA novel that was too simple to be truly enjoyable? I'm not sure what my reasons for waiting were...but I am glad that I finally read Divergent. I loved it. With an easy to read style, well paced plot and fascinating characters, Divergent is one of those novels that keeps your ...more

I enjoyed hunger games a bit more, but this book truly did pick up steam near the end. I am curious what happens next.

This dystopian YA novel felt more than a bit derivative of The Hunger Games,
and at times the writing felt very repetitive. BUT...that didn't stop me from rushing
through to the end of this first installment of the series. Plus I earned "cool" points

This is a book for young people. I read because it was so highly rated on Goodreads, and I loved Hunger Games, but this was not as clever or well written. It was an interestingpremise, but most of the book was just elaborate fighting, the heroine going through initiation trials, and a somewhat exciting ending. It made me appreciate Hunger Games all the more for its universal appeal. Still the author of this book is 22 years old and good for her to write such a book popular with young readers!
