This was enjoyable in the same way The Hunger Games was enjoyable - it's action-packed, and you want to see what happens next in the illogical dystopian society featured in the book. Wow! This book is amazing! The society she wrote about is really interesting! The main characters are very complex and likable.

If you've been bouncing from mediocre book to mediocre book, and you're really looking for a book to grab you again, this is it, this is the book.
A lot of reviews on GR mention a similarity to Hunger Games, and I have seen this book on lots of those "if you loved Hunger Games, you'll love ..." lists, so I was a little worried. I loved the Hunger Games, but I'm not looking for more of the same. But rest assured, this book is not a copy.

I liked this book way more than I thought I would. Yes, the dystopian world created in the book was ridiculous and didn't really make any sense. Yes, the teen romance was eye rolling at times. I think the value of dystopian fiction is often to make the reader ask questions about present realities or think imaginatively about our world and where it is going or could possibly go. Have I told you lately how much I LOVE post-apocolyptic fiction? It's true. And, Divergent didn't disappoint. It is YA fiction but brainy and full of well-devleoped characters and plot twists. I'm ready to move on to Insurgent and it takes up right where Divergent left off. Seriously...in the same spot so it'll be like one long book instead of three. Allegiant is next in the queue.

So...this book is a lot like eating potato chips...you know they're bad, but you just keep on eating because they taste good. It was a fun read, but the premise is utterly ridiculous. I've been searching in vain for something like The Hunger Games. This is as close as I have found. It's not quite as good, because it takes a really long time for the action to start, but I liked it a lot better than the other YA dystopian books I've read recently. I am really looking forward to reading the next one.
