Very intense. It begins very slowly but speeds up a lot close to the end. The characters are very well written, the whole plot is constructed so good and detailed. Can't wait for the sequel!

Underwhelming. The story is set in the flapper era, and the language got me down after a while. I thought at one point if anyone said pos-it-ute-ly one more time I was going to throw the book away. Many of the characters (apart from Evie) felt one-dimensional to me, behaving quite predictably and became caricatures of themselves. Really dumb (and I don't write that easily). The main character adds -ski to all sorts of words, apparently as representative of how 20s flappers spoke? The story is a hodgepodge of occult and religious symbolism and never really gets going.

This book was perfection! The 1920s is my favorite time period to learn about plus with the mystery and urban fantasy elements this book was made for me! Instant favorite!
