I read this for a social work class. I had a hard time relating to Styron throughout this and honestly felt like he was kind of whiny and melodramatic. I am glad he survived his battle with depression and hope this book is inspiring for those with a similar struggle.

Just finished rereading this book for a class and it was as insightful as I remembered. I would recommend this to anyone who has every suffered from depression or who wants to understand the devastation of mental illness.
