I really appreciate that Grossman chose to focus more on Julia here, because to be perfectly honest there's not really that much more to say about the hopelessly emo Quentin. A wonderful exploration of what really makes us happy and the importance of feeling useful, productive and connected to a community through a magical lens. Loved it! (Much more than the first one).

This one was harder for me to get into but I still liked it a lot at the end. On to the last installment.

SUCH AN IMPROVEMENT from the first book!! Quentin is still pretty frustrating in this one, but I still enjoy his realism. And there are WAY more adventures! [spoilers]And dragons![/spoilers]

I really enjoyed this book. Looking forward to the next one. Can we spend a bit more time in the Neitherlands though, please? I'd like to read some of those books hiding in their libraries! <3

I liked The Magicians. I really liked The Magician King. There's the same amazing and magical world here, and Grossman's prose is still disarmingly wry. What I liked so much more about this one was the characters. Quentin has grown up (thank god), and Julia -- I loved Julia. She was absolutely wonderful. ...more
