I really appreciate that Grossman chose to focus more on Julia here, because to be perfectly honest there's not really that much more to say about the hopelessly emo Quentin. Julia's story is deeply compelling and opens up a lot of opportunities for Grossman to explore and expand the world he's created. SUCH AN IMPROVEMENT from the first book!! Quentin is still pretty frustrating in this one, but I still enjoy his realism. And there are WAY more adventures! [spoilers]And dragons![/spoilers]

I liked The Magicians. I really liked The Magician King. There's the same amazing and magical world here, and Grossman's prose is still disarmingly wry. What I liked so much more about this one was the characters. Quentin has grown up (thank god), and Julia -- I loved Julia. She was absolutely wonderful.

I'm loving this series and can't wait to delve into the next book. I think I liked Book #2 better than the first. Oh my gosh I love a good trilogy.
