On the cover of this book about people living in New York it says this book received the honor of "best book of the year" from the New York Times. Talk about navel contemplation, because I truly cannot understand why this book won any awards. The book is borderline horrid. It's as if each character is like the writer character in Sideways, so painful to watch that it's tempting to turn off the movie. I remember hearing great things about this book when it came out about five years ago, but it was the kind of praise that didn't really resonate with me. Fast-forward to the present, and now having it read it, I can see why. A book about a bunch of self-absorbed, privileged people in New York just couldn't hold my attention. I wanted to like it so much because it had gotten so much buzz and good reviews. I supposed it's just not my type of book.
