At the start I loved this book about a group of young women working in publishing in the 1950s. Jaffe's style is deliciously readable - she is a writer I used to enjoy years ago and was glad to rediscover. However, I got bored with this novel at times as there is so much about the heroines' love lives, which are all rather similar, as they pine after men who don't really love them - and there isn't enough about their working lives for my taste.
