The Master Butchers Singing Club draws you into the story with its unique title and keeps you reading because of the emotion packed mysteries that unfold throughout the story. My favorite Erdrich novel so far (it's my third). The narrative spans 30 or 40 years and a lot of characters make their way through the story, but the book is focused on two families who I became very fond of. Erdrich is particularly good at following children as they grow and noting the subtle ways they change as they become more independent. She also shows how intertwined lives in a small town are, in ways expected and not. A perfect summer book.
