Like the main character's path branching in two directions, so did my opinion of this book. Really, I'd give this 2 1/2 stars. At times I liked it, and at times I HATED it. Sometimes I was bored, and sometimes I was riveted. Sometimes I thought Irina was whiney and annoying and a pain in the ass, and sometimes I saw bits of myself in her (although, granted, those were probably my whiney, annoying, PItA bits).

Two parallel stories, stemming from a decision made in a moment, follow the consequences of Irina's decisions. We probably all have those moments, and it was intriguing to follow the convolutions of the alternate pathways.

Entertainment Weekly picked this as its favorite book of the year. I don't agree, although it is a good read. It's a story about a woman who has a chance to cheat on her husband with their friend. The book then describes what would happen if she does and what would happen if she doesn't. Which man would give her a better life? You'll have to read it to find out.
