I knew very little about the Little Rock Nine and their fight for integration and equal opportunity at Central High School before reading this book. I'm currently reading the Young Reader's Edition with my students and they are eating it up. I love how she brings in the newspaper headlines of the day with her own memories. It is also interesting to compare and contrast her memory and opinion of what occurred with others (such as Mrs. Bates, the NAACP Arkansas chapter president; Thurgood Marshall ...more
