This debut novel is by a Palestinian journalist from Tira, a village just inside the border with Israel. It appears to be very autobiographical, following a protagonist born in Tira in 1975 (like the author), whose path appears to closely follow that of the author, who left home to attend a prestigious Israeli boarding school. The structure is quite loose, an assembly of brief 3-5 page vignettes that unfold in roughly chronological order, taking the reader through his childhood and family life,

This was an interesting collection of vignettes of the narrator's life in Isreal. He deals with issues of class, race, and the ever-present Palestinian-Israeli conflict. I didn't feel too connected to the narrator, however the book was a good illustration of how one could be amidst the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and yet not feel connected to his own people and their struggles.
