I was a little surprised to come to this site and see the sheer number of prominent bad reviews this got. I rather enjoyed this book, particularly for what it was (a YA paranormal romance). Stiefvater has come up with a wonderful new look at werewolves and used it with great effect to write a very atmospheric novel. Okay, I will admit that the prose could be very purple (a common complaint in the negative reviews) but I was fine with it in the context. The story is, after all, about a first love

If you are looking for good writing, a plot, and decent characterisation, move on. If you have the flu, have to spend a day or so on the couch with very few brain cells functioning, pick this book up, it'll be ideal, and that's exactly what I did. Yet another story about a teenage girl who falls in love with a supernatural being (in this case a werewolf),and who obsesses about him- even long before she ever sees him in human form. A teen romance, and a bit difficult to hear Grace keep referring to "my wolf." The boy is content to just hold hands at first, how sweet, but how totally unbelievable. I fell asleep during their initial meeting, oops, but I didn't actually care too much that I was missing the encounter to go back and listen to it again. So not a total waste of time, but not worth a reread either.

Fun little paranormal romance YA. Quick & enjoyable read. A lot better than Twilight.

This book was like watching paint dry... in subzero temperatures. Ugh. I almost didn't finish, but I already did that to a book before this one. I was only able to complete it by skimming.

While i was reading this book I read a review that said it was like team Jacob version of twilight. Well said! It's not as addictive as twilight... Could be the writing style and that I did read and enjoy twilight first. I will however read the sequel Linger in hopes the fates have turned and it won't be as sappy as shiver. To be continued...
