Okay, I read two dog books in a row because my book club decided to do this for our February meeting. That said this book made me laugh so hard I cried and then, of course, I cried at the end as one must with all dog books if one loves dogs. I am the former owner of four Marley's--a black Lab, a yellow Lab (pure breed AKC registered and probably Marley's first cousin), a chocolate Lab, and a Lab/Husky/ Wolf mix. They all cost me thousands of dollars in vet bills, household and yard improvements ...more

A must read for animal lovers; however, this book is so much more - a love story and a story about commitment that will make you laugh and cry. This book also makes a nice holiday read, because it's moves quickly and leaves the reader with a good feeling. ...more

Despite the fact that Grogan obviously loved this dog, I can't agree with his philosophy that his dog was happy as an untrained animal that was allowed to virtually destroy parts of their house and their belongings. I think that trained dogs are happier because they know what is expected of them and can depend on praise and support when they do as they are asked. I also don't understand how Grogan could leave his dog with a vet when he knew the dog loved and needed him as he was dying. ...more

The story is exactly what we went through with our dog Wally. Somehow Wally has miraculously made it to the age of 13, despite oing through many similar expierences that Marley did.

This book was often hilarious. It tracks the life and trials of Marley the dog and how he fits into the life of the author's family. I won't lie, at the end you'll cry. ...more
