What Members Thought

Queenie Bean is a farm wife in Kansas during the 1930's. She is part of a quilting club with several other women. Rita is new to town and the group. When Rita wants to write a newspaper article about a local death it effects members of the club. There were a lot of characters in this book and I found it hard to keep track of everyone. I also don't think the characters were very well developed, even Queenie who narrates the book. The story was ok but the ending was kind of odd.

I loved this book--and I really didn't expect to. The first chapter had a lot of characters to learn, but after that it just got better with each chapter. There are some fun unexpected twists to the plot, a few predictable parts, but a very good surprize ending. It definitely made me think a little deeper, feel a little more, and find a connection to the characters. Very good read!

I really enjoy books by Sandra Dallas and this one is no exception. Set in the 1930's in Kansas, the plot revolves around a group of women who have a quilting club, called "The Persian Pickle Club", and how they help one another in the grueling circumstances of the Great Depression. It is a novel of history, friendship, tragedy, and even some deep dark secrets.
