Temperance Brennan is in Guatemala helping unearth and identify skeletons from mass graves from massacres that took place in the 1980's. Brennan is also called in by the local police to help with a body found in a sceptic tank. The police think the body could be one of four young women who recently went missing. Grave Secrets was a better read than the previous four books in the series. Continue to like the forensics and science. But the writing is still choppy with largely flat characters. Couldn't buy Temp's school-girl reactions to her two love interests. She is supposed to be a smart, grown up professional, divorced from her philandering husband with whom she remains on good terms, and she has a grown daughter.

Ol' Dr. Temperance "call me Tempe" Brennan does it again: examining grisly human remains, helping police solve murders, and putting herself in ridiculously dangerous situations. This one's plot hung together better than the first four books. In addition to the Guatemalan history angle, this book is notable for Tempe having to retrieve a skeleton from a hotel sceptic tank--niiiiiiiiice! As with the others in this series, do not read while eating.
