Ever since visiting Beirut back in 2013 or so, I've wanted to read up more on the history & background of Beirut/Lebanon. Fascinating place & peoples. This book wasn't exactly what I was thinking--but it was pretty informative in some ways on the modern history of Lebanon. The author's family is originally from southern Lebanon--though most of them emigrated to the US back in the early 19o0s, most of them making their way eventually to Oklahoma. This is a beautifully written book and also fascinating as it chronicles the immigration of well-known Lebanese families from a small village in Syria/Lebanon to Oklahoma.
