I have mixed feelings about this book, and would rate different parts anywhere from 1 star to 5 stars, hence my 3 star rating.
I had trouble getting into the book. I started 2 or 3 times before I finally made it through part 1. Probably b/c I didn't much like Reverend Stephen Drew, and this was long before the allegations began in part 2. I didn't understand how he justified his fascination with crucifixion to parlay that into his religious calling. I could understand his burnout b/c I don't thin ...more

There's some promise behind Bohjalian's premise, but ultimately this one falls flat as it spends far too long building to a terribly obvious conclusion. I kind of wish he'd just dropped the suspense element and told the story straight, since that's by far the weakest part of this outing.
