Sometimes a plot synopsis is not enough to give you the tone of a book. I can see how the premise of a woman marrying a stranger with malicious intent struck me as interesting in a Double Indemnity sort of way, but really it's much more about a warped loved triangle between abusers and the abused. I can see what Goolrick was going for, but it seems to me that the characters only show emotional change and growth when it's convenient for the plot, such as it is. Twisted and disturbing, raw and heart-wretching, graphic and captivating - this book may be my favorite one of the year so far. I loved every moment of it.
I generally liked the book, altho several passages got to be repetitious and monotonous. A page turner because of the twists and turns and not knowing how it would end.

The story of three people entangled in a web of lies and passion. I found it unputdownable and whilst the story itself is quite troubling, the final scenes are a little uplifting giving some hope for the future of the characters.
