Of course this is a 3rd or 4th read. Love to read this in the Summer to feel cooler. What I find interesting is that there was a bad winter in 1942, in North Dakota. I wonder if that area has cycles of really bad winters.
11/23/2020: I read this again for a seasonal challenge (nothing can say winter like this book). Even though I have read this multiple times, certain things stand out, that I didn't remember from the first 5 or 6 times reading the book.

We started reading this to our kids during a snow and ice storm last month. Whatever the faults of these stories as time marches on, they are priceless as time capsules of the past. I'm still in awe of the hard work and fortitude by these families. We encourage our children to be critical readers when they encounter bigotry in the attitudes of some of the characters without denying their strength of character. This is one of my favorites in the series.
