I give five stars sparingly, so I was torn between giving and "four" and a "five" here. Ultimately, though, when I considered that I'd put aside all other tasks one weekend to devote to finishing this book, I decided that this was five-star material.

A booker-listed title and my first Julian Barnes. I have no clue what his other titles are like, but this one was quite good. It took me a while to get into the story. It is my own fault because I kept trying to guess at the connection between the two. I should have just sat back and enjoyed the journey.
