I saw the movie many years ago so was looking forward to reading the book -- it is a dark-themed story about desperate times. I loved the writing and was pretty well-engaged up until the last chapter when it just fell apart. The ending -- though I knew what it was going to be -- was just limp. A rare case where I think the movie was better than the book.

Shelves: mystery, noir
A swift and punchy story with a surprising amount of drama and suspense considering the marathon-dance-competition setting. And yes, it is a seriously awesome title.
