As literature, this book is pretty thin. There are no three-dimensional characters, and nobody learns anything or changes.

Nanny annoyed me for her spinelessness. Advice, Nanny: most of your problems could be solved if she would just act in a more businesslike way. If you want your clients to treat you like a professional, then act like one. Set clear terms for the job and stick to them. Set a per-diem fee in advance for the Nantucket trip and stick by it. And don’t be afraid to walk away if the

This is probably one of my favorites in the chic lit genre. I love how she gets all those details, like lilac scented water for the family's iron, right. ...more

The only people I liked in this book were nanny, HH, grayer , and nanny's family . I wanted to bitch slap Mrs. X .

My view on nannies is this :

I kept thinking throughout reading the book, "Why the heck did she put up with such abuse?" She wasn't Jane Eyre, she wasn't trapped in a situation that she had no escape from.
I did find myself hating the main character towards the last 1/3 of the book. She was consistantly whining to wh

Totally different from the movie, of course. I liked the writer's style. It was funny at times, but she did set up the characters pretty well. I wanted to cry at the end of the book. Poor Grayer. :( And poor Nan. ...more

Rereading this book before reading the sequel. I actually still like it, and it's more relevant with my situation as a parent, too :) all the dramas and dilemmas. I like Nanny, even though now I can see that she's still too young and not as mature as I thought of her before. The translation is ok but not too good. New York City setting is wonderful as usual. ...more
